Men are more likely than women to be obese. 

Most cases can be addressed by a combination of healthy eating and exercise or medication. Weight loss surgery, sometimes called bariatric surgery is only available on the NHS for people with severe obesity who meet specific eligibility criteria. To be considered for NHS weight loss surgery you must fulfil certain criteria. 

NHS treatment is only offered to those who have tried other weight management options without success. It is important before you seek private treatment that you discuss all possibilities with your GP and consultant, since all procedures have risks. Private providers may offer bariatric procedures such as gastric balloon insertion, gastric bands, or gastric bypass surgery.
